Breastfeeding and Weight Gain
Is my baby getting enough milk? A common concern for parents is if the baby is "getting enough milk" and gaining appropriately. No doubt it can take time to feel confident in your ability to make milk. The best way to make more milk is by doing - doing more breastfeeding and/or pumping (pumping is stimulating your breasts in absence of baby). The more you stimulate your breasts (read this blog post) and remove milk - the more milk you make. Watch the baby - if baby cues, (see this visual) ---> respond! This is baby communicating with you what they need. Feeding on all cues and/or at least 8-12x times in 24 hours is not too frequently (especially in the beginning!). Now, what about output ie void and stools and how much they should be gaining? Read this blog post.
